Shopify store owners love two things – more traffic, and more conversions. When you have products that you believe in, it's frustrating when you aren’t getting the kind of visitors and sales numbers that you feel you deserve. Take a look at six tips for getting more traffic and conversions on your site.

Increased conversions

1. Prioritize conversions over branding

It's all too common for those in e-commerce with Shopify stores to prioritize branding over sales. We've had it drummed into our heads that branding is important for success in online sales, and while it's true, it's not something that you should pursue to the detriment of your conversion statistics.

For example, it's been shown that using bright colors can have a huge effect on your conversion rates – so if you are sticking rigidly to brand colors, you can be losing out on sales. A real-world example of this came from luxury children’s clothes seller Childsplay Clothing, which preferred black-and-white branding to the use of colors on their site.

“When our marketing team came to us with the idea of changing the color of the ‘add to bag’ button, we were skeptical,” said Moby Latif, Head of Business Strategy & Development at Childsplay “but since changing the button to orange we have seen a significant increase in conversions”.

2. Speed up your page loading times

Recent statics released by Google indicate that page loading speed is a vital factor in visitors bouncing from your website. In relatively simplistic terms, having a page loading speed of under 1 second is excellent and a page loading speed of under 2 seconds is good. But when your page loading speed reaches 3 seconds, the probability of a visitor bouncing from your site rises by 32% – when that speed reaches 6 seconds, the probability rises to 106%.

So for e-commerce sites of all types, it's important to do everything you can to improve the loading speeds of the pages. In e-commerce, the value of high-quality images is well-known, but large file sizes can slow down the site. Images can be easily compressed to make the file smaller. Look into fixing issues such as broken links and an excessive number of redirects as well.

3. Use reviews

Business owners need to understand the value of reviews and testimonials. They can increase conversions simply through the added trust of real-life reviews from genuine customers. The majority of shoppers are savvy enough to understand that every site will tell them their products are the best – so they look to genuine customer reviews for an honest insight.

Thankfully, it's easy to add reviews to a Shopify site. And the difference that it can make can genuinely revolutionize your website.

More traffic

1. Make use of influencers

If you've never heard of influencer marketing, then you could be missing out on an important advertising channel. E-commerce businesses can benefit enormously from the recommendations of so-called influencers – individuals on social media with a large reach and audience within your industry.

Bloggers and social media personalities have the kind of reputation with their followers which allows them to share product recommendations. You can gain a huge of amount of traction and increase your traffic substantially by teaming up with the right influencers from across your industry. They could be hired as a spokesperson or simply contacted to provide a review of a product.

2. Create amazing social media content

Social media is a truly essential tool, especially for Shopify stores and e-commerce businesses. Unfortunately, the vast majority of shops churn out the same sorts of dull content like rehashed product pages and the occasional offer. The fact is that these are not going to drive traffic to your site. Instead, it is important to create content that you are proud of.

Take a look at your competitors and understand both what they are doing and what they are not doing. There are always possibilities in the marketplace and you can exploit them.

3. Use paid advertising effectively

Many e-commerce sites have been burned when they have attempted to use paid advertising. This is mainly because this sort of advertising can be extremely expensive, and requires constant monitoring to get the most out of it. So make sure that if you are going to get involved in paid advertising that you set a budget and stay on top of how much you are spending.

While e-commerce sites offer easy templates for creating your own stores, being smart about your presentation and promotion can help you maximize this platform. Simple tips like the ones above can go a long way toward boosting sales and creating a seamless customer experience.
